Queen and TomKat

Tom Cruise's wedding seemed to be getting a lot of attention in the NERD press- much more than in the Italian papers.

The town of Bracciano was beseiged by paparazzi and one ex-English resident of the town had written to the Middle England Bible complaining that they would like their town back.... please Tom!

But some residents were cashing in on the event, even renting out their balconies with a view of the castle for a mere $1,000 for the day! Tom of course was in full control - he had put a million dollar gagging order on the catering staff so that no details of the wedding feast at one of the most famous restaurants in Rome would be revealed.

"But who cares what they are going to eat?" protested the Queen.

"Well, I suppose a waiter could get a nice tidy sum for revealing the menu to a journalist and steal Tom's thunder" mused the Press Secretary. "But he didn't succeed in getting the airspace closed over Bracciano - the helicopter traffic is deafening", he laughed.

"The Scientology wedding ceremony is rather interesting- he promises or acknowledges that 'girls need clothes and food and tender happiness and frills, a pan,a comb and perhaps a cat!" exclaimed the Queen.

"And she promises or knows that 'young men are free and may forget their promises" chimed in the Press Secretary.

Prince Consort snorted "So, if Tom is unfaithful, she can beat him over the head with the pan, use the comb to get him out of her hair and console herself with the company of the cat!"

Next morning the Press Secretary announced to no one in particular

"She's absolutely furious!"

"Who?"the Queen asked puzzled

"The Mayor of Bracciano, the town where TomKat tied the knot" said the Press Secretary.

"Tomcat is a male cat" said PC with great emphasis.

"But that was not clarified in the Scientology wedding ceremony - 'perhaps a cat' - sex not specified" said the Queen.

"Anyway, why is the Mayor so upset?"

"First, she did not get an invite to the wedding and the Mayor of Rome did -so sour grapes there. Secondly , the town was besieged by paparazzi, traffic blocked and then TomKat did not even make an appearance or go on a walkabout- it could have really put Bracciano on the map and the residents might have got a little thrill- you know'Bracciano becomes a Hollywood Suburb'" said the Press Secretary.

"Instead, nobody appeared in the town - everybody arrived surrounded by bodyguards, portcullis up and all the town got to see were a few lousy fireworks and as it was a foggy evening, these were damp squibs. No flowers sent to the Mayor, no telegram of thanks" he continued. "And she was going to make them Honorary Citizens of Bracciano!"

"You know, I think the Mayor is right" the Queen said thoughtfully " They should have done a walkabout - I would have done - I have always respected my subjects- I mean people in general" she finished lamely.

The residents were pleased at least that when all the stars arrived, it was raining!"the Press Secretary laughed.

"At least Mrs Beckham's hat was useful - she was wearing what looked like a flying saucer !" sneered PC.

Queen Finds An Intruder!

Read the humorous adventures of the exiled Queen as she learns to cope with Italian social mores and a complicated political scenario. Ousted by the Republican party after a closely fought referendum(51%) in which the Monarchy is declared an anachronism, the Queen and Prince Consort decide to live out their exile in Italy. "Binoculars please" the Queen snapped. The Press Secretary knew that the Queen had never, ever recovered from finding a man in her bedroom about twenty years ago. That incident had left a deep scar on her psyche. She had tried Bach flower remedies and later psychotherapy but she was still haunted by the incident. As a result, she always worried about security.

She took no time at all to focus on the Mini Cooper. It had an Italian registration number.

"2003, Mini Cooper S, Inline 4 and Front Wheel Drive" she said briskly.

"But look further down towards that copse.... I can just make out a man lurking in the trees"

"Can I have a look?" asked the Press Secretary "It's a woman".

"No, it's a man!"insisted the Queen

"It's a cross dresser!" said PC but nobody appreciated this flippant remark at this very tense moment.

"Shall we say it is a mere mortal?" said the Press Secretary.

The Queen shot him a nasty look. "She/he or it is an intruder and I want him/her or it off the property, fast, pronto!"

"It could be a NERD spy from the anti-monarchists- they are a nosey lot" suggested the Press Secretary.

"Enough of Shakespearian cross dressing and spies in from the cold or heat for that matter- I want them out" shouted the Queen.

The Press Secretary was resigned to his fate. "Allright, I will go and see this person/thing/drag queen off the estate"

"We will hide in the basement - take the Smith Wesson with you, just in case".

"Don't do yourself in" sneered PC.

The Press Secretary first went to the Control Room-all rooms on red alert. He quickly changed into his ACU- the latest US model-a combination of green-woodland, grey- urban and sand brown- desert. He pulled on his jungle ripple boots.

He was well trained and hardened. It had been a requisite for the job- 'combat training and experience highly desirable'. He had successfully completed the Skutsnuz GRU training with the Russian Special Forces. He had been a rugby player too in another life but had no time for the Gavin Hensons of this world who went under the sun lamp before matches! Ridiculous! These guys did not even know the meaning of 'Dinosaur' strength workouts, nor speed uphill training. They had probably never even heard of capture-bonding. Hardly necessary after a rugby match, admittedly, but HE was ready for anything now after that training. Because of his somewhat mild- mannered nature, they had no idea that he was a man of steel.

He quickly took the all-purpose clasp-knife and the fling knife for good measure. On second thoughts, he decided to take the Beretta 21 Bobcat - much easier loading.

He skirted the rear courtyard. He crawled through the ferns near the copse. He lay still, his super Health-Watch showed all bodily functions working perfectly. Adrenalin was rushing- he felt strong and calm. He saw a shadow through trees. Then a female figure emerged from the cover. She looked perplexed.

"Walk with your hands above your head" he ordered keeping the Beretta aimed at her heart.

"Don't be ridiculous-where do you think we are- Abu Ghraib prison!" said the intruder.

"It is my duty to warn you that you are trespassing on the Queen's property"

"What Queen - I am a sort of queen- my name is Valerie Lust- the first ever transgender member of Parliament!"

The Press Secretary slowly lowered the revolver. He recognised the angular facial features- the Italian press had been full of Ms Valerie Lust. The scene could have been from an Almodovar film- the tough combat fighter meets a transgender MP in an Italian garden belonging to an exiled Queen! The figures blended in with the beautiful surroundings- vague colours of the uniform hardly distinguishable from the trees while Valerie's pale mauve trouser suit was a perfect match for the lavender bushes at her feet.

The Press Secretary could barely contain his fury. He explained who the tenants were and asked Ms Lust what she was doing on the property.

"Just passing by on my way to Urbino for a meeting, took a wrong turning and parked my Mini Cooper over there and was just strolling, admiring the lavender"

"I will accompany you to the car" he gallantly offered.

"Do you think I could possibly meet the Queen?" He thought for a moment and decided that any member of Parliament of whatever sex would be asset for their cause, even if this MP was elected by the Communists.

"Very well" he said

"Take me to your Queen", she laughed.

He clomped down the gravel paths, kicking the stones and thought that he would never live this down. Worst of all, PC had been right- the intruder was indeed a cross dresser!

Kindly Mother Goose Gets Hit by Merger Mania

by: Arlene Sonya Weiss

Mergers have taken over the world. My very first bank – Bell Federal - has long merged with LaSalle Bank, and now if I want to talk to someone about my mortgage, I have to call a place I never even heard of before – Troy, Michigan! Here in Chicago, Marshall Field’s has been swallowed up lock, stock and barrel by MACY’S – almost bringing about second Revolutionary War.

Now, just think about what would happen if our beloved Mother Goose friends were also to be bitten by the Deadly Merger Bug. Let’s start off with pretty Little Bo Peep. The same day that she found her sheep, she bumped into her old friend, Goldilocks, and they immediately went to the home of The Three Bears and did some negotiating – and they are now known as the jazz group, Peep, Goldi and the Bears. Now look at poor lean Jack Spratt. He and his hearty wife stopped to chat with Simple Simon as he was going to the Fair. Deciding to merge together, they made lots of dough selling their wares. And what about Old Mother Hubbard whose cupboard was always bare? She moved in with Little Jack Horner while he was relishing his Christmas pie, and they became known as H&H, Horner and Hubbard, and their business grew and grew and she no longer had any worries about feeding Fido. The Famous Three Blind Mice moved in to the cupboard, and made a nice comfortable home for themselves, but they continued to squeal an awful lot.

Little Boy Blue blew his horn one day and was overjoyed to discover that his music had led him to find that frolicsome twosome, Jack and Jill; the poor kids got lost as they trudged up that hill. They got together and created Jack and Jill’s Horn of Plenty English Tea Shoppe. One day the Cat and his Fiddle came over to cheer up Little Miss Muffet, who had fallen off her tuffet and then all got together as they went over to say hello to Old King Cole, who called on his Fiddlers Three and they incorporated themselves as Music a la Mode and played at the king’s fabulous birthday party. After quite a bit of trouble, Humpty Dumpty got himself together and limped over for needed rehab to the Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe. She worked hard to get Humpty completely back to his old self, and he reciprocated by starting up Humpty’s Bedie-By Service, 24-hour care for tough toddlers.

Pumpkin Pies International was started by Peter the Pumpkin Eater and Georgie Porgie but Georgie had to promise not to kiss the girls and make them cry. Now they have branches in Paris, Rome and London. Of course, in Paris he is allowed to kiss the girls! One, Two Three Little Indians got together with the Blackhawks and created a gorgeous casino -- named the Call of the. … HEY – STOP THE PRESSES, here’s another merger – AT&T is back in the limelight with a marriage to the SBC phone company. Got to hand it to AT&T – it’s back in the saddle again. Koch Industries has merged with Georgia Pacific, a company that owns practically all of the paper products in America, and probably most of the trees! Where will it all end? Maybe tomorrow the headlines will shout out, “Lake Michigan about to merge with the Atlantic Ocean!”

Laugh and the Work World Laughs With You

by: Craig Harrison

Many of today's work environments are rife with moody bosses and co-workers, repetitive tasks and unpredictable market pressures. Stress abounds. Managers often tell me they can’t afford the time or cost for my humor workshops; how can they afford not to address workplace stress.

We know clinically that laughter and play have medicinal qualities, offering physical, psychological and physiological benefits as well. In the workplace, humor and fun can increase productivity, encourage creativity, enhance team building, and thus improve esprit de corps.

While we may not be able to control everything that happens to us in our jobs and work environments, we do have control over how we choose to react. I coach others how to create an environment which is safe and friendly, and use humor to help maintain a healthy balance between the pressure and seriousness which comes from high stakes jobs and a competitive marketplace. Remember that humor starts from within. Being able to laugh at your own foibles goes a long way toward creating a healthy work climate in which to flourish.

The following are activities and strategies for you as individuals, workgroups and managers. Be creative and use these ideas to stimulate your own remedies to workplace stress.

- Adorn your work area with cartoons, headlines or funny photos which bring a smile to your face and visiting co-workers'. Whether you're surrounded by your favorite Pez dispensers childhood, or wry cartoons that speak to your tastes, let your work area comfort and humor you while taking some of the edge off the standard office decor.

- Tap a co-worker to be your humor-partner. Bring a daily joke to share. Commiserate about funny workplace events. Keep each other buoyed with good cheer. When the chips are down your humor partner can chip away at your depression, and vice versa.

- Don't think cubicles limit your humor options. I've seen shower curtains, umbrellas and other devices used effectively to set a light or semi-serious tone. For some, creativity flourishes behind their cubicle's shower curtain. People tampering with your work area? Don't get angry…protect it with yellow "Crime Scene" tape!

- Subscribe to a humor website to be e-mailed a free daily or weekly humorous story, joke and anecdote. Sites such as www.netfunny.com/rhf/ or www.oraclehumor.com/ are two examples.

Are You Laughin' At Me? One manager, known for his moodiness, acknowledged it with a "Mood-O-Meter" outside his door. Both he and his employees took turns forecasting his mood: from fire-breathing to variable clouds to periodic eruptions…proceed at your own risk. Don't underestimate the power of self-effacing humor for making yourself more accessible and liked.

Room for Laughter. Some companies designate a room, work area or corner of their office as a romper room, where frolicking and silliness is allowed. Whether yours has a punching bag, games, a dartboard or foosball, it's a room for letting off steam and taking a break from the grind.

Whine Not. Everyone loathes whiners yet we all need to blow off steam periodically. One group of creative trainers and their manager decreed Thursdays to be effective whining days. They self-policed themselves the rest of the week, making sure not to whine. Yet even their Thursday gripes had a departmental sanction and somehow seemed healthier. After all, they belly ached together. A ripple effect actually improved the morale of departments adjacent to theirs!

Meting Out Humor. Many professionals approach meetings with trepidation. A dash of humor can make a difference. For regular meetings earmark one or two minutes each meeting for a humorous interlude. In one workgroup a "humor hand" rotates from meeting to meeting. Employees take turns setting a lighter tone to the meeting, insuring everybody is engaged. An anecdote, verbal or physical activity focuses the group on the task at hand and brings colleagues together in a spirit of fun.

When not to use Humor. Not all humor is good humor. Humor that hurts, ostracizes or is cruel will have a detrimental effect on others and you. Strive for humor that is inclusive, creative and captures our human essence. By now you know that sexist, racist, ageist jokes and crude humor are not only inappropriate, but can lead to sanctions, termination or even lawsuits. Be sensitive when telling jokes involving terminations, reductions in force (RIFs) and personal tragedies. Their hurt can linger long after the fact. . When in doubt…leave it out!

Appropriate humor can make hard tasks easier, collaborations fun and certainly make workdays go faster. Laugh, and the work world laughs with you!

Jest Practices: Best Practices for Humor in the Workplace

by: Craig Harrison

Most agree that humor in the workplace can have beneficial effects. Yet not all humor is good humor. The challenge: how to interject appropriate humor and fun into our serious jobs without hurting others or seriously undermining the company. When used appropriately, humor can work for you.

Humor that Uploads Also Uplifts

Humor has the power to make people feel special. When you include people in fun it simultaneously improves morale, reduces stress and facilitates team building. With the prevalence of telecommuting and workgroups scattered geographically, the challenge of furthering working relationships, bonding and building camaraderie is real. At one San Francisco Bay Area company a workgroup staged an elaborate Remote Baby Shower. The expectant mother, who was out-of-state, called in for a pre-arranged conference call with her workgroup. When she did...surprise! Everyone was having a party in her honor. They uploaded digital photos of a decorated conference room and each other, and e-mailed sound files with well wishes. Everyone shared in the good cheer. This creative use of technology brought employees closer to each other, figuratively if not literally.

Humor That Brings People Together

Workplaces are full of opportunities to use humor for the benefit of all. Milestones are a natural place to employ humor. Dress like the recipient as a tribute during a surprise birthday party. Other celebrations to mark anniversaries, project completions or similar accomplishments are perfect opportunities to utilize humor. Even surviving certain projects is cause for celebration and fun.

Holidays are another natural time to employ humor. Halloween is a time for contests to see who can best decorate conference rooms; for other companies the anniversary of their founding is cause for celebration. Silly speeches, skits and spoofs abound.

And the Award Goes To...

Staging award ceremonies is a great way to have fun, recognize each other and revel in the shared work experience. Whether the categories mimic those found at the Oscars, Emmys or Tonys, or are derivative, esprit de corps rises when the team laughs at itself and each other. Best Supporting Actor, Best Impersonation of an Inanimate Object, Best Special Effects, Most Likely to Secede, or Lifetime Achievement Award.

Humor Is The Winning Ticket

Pranks can alternately be uplifting or uprooting. A desktop publisher, on April Fools Day, adorned his co-workers cars' windshields with mock yellow parking tickets, complete with envelopes for remittance. Upon closer inspection, these true-to-life replicas of tickets had whimsical offenses of significance to the recipients. The departmental joker's ticket cited him for "excessive use of farce" and the hard charging corporate counsel's infraction charged him with a "Failure to Yield." Of course the initiator of the gag was later cited for impersonating an officer. Everyone laughed at the spoof once they realized it was a joke. Judge Judy's signature at the bottom of the ticket gave it away.

Pole Position

A fast growing company didn't have enough office space for full cubicles for its new hires. One unfortunate hire's assigned cubicle had a giant pole in its midst. To her credit she never complained. Co-workers felt for her. One night they hit the streets, collecting various fliers from telephone poles in their neighborhoods. The next day when the new hire reached her cubicle, the offending pole was now covered with notices about missing pets, renters seeking apartments, cheap movers for hire and even local GRE study groups. Not only did the employee know her co-workers felt her frustration, it bonded them as well as they pulled together to help one of their own.

One Person's Humor is Another Person's Horror

When targeting humor consider targeting yourself. Everyone has a different idea of what's funny and what's not. Many a well intentioned prank or joke has backfired. One co-worker sent another a prank letter impersonating a local media figure. The recipient mistook it for real, interpreted it as harassment and called the FBI. Oops!

The Benefits of Self-Effacing Humor

When we make fun of ourselves it actually demonstrates our healthy outlook, showing we don't take ourselves so seriously. As a result, we're regarded as more approachable and down to earth. Don't make fun of yourself excessively. Such humor loses its effectiveness with overuse.

Everyone from politicians to CEOs to Southwest Airlines flight attendants use self-deprecating humor - humor that makes fun of themselves - to get people laughing at, and consequently with them. You can too.

While gallows humor may feel appropriate during layoffs and cutbacks, strive to employ humor that uplifts and taps universal themes for best results. Here's to laughter!

Dick Cheney’s Wartime Orphanage

by: Tom Attea

“But, sir,” the trembling orphan dared to utter, “I don’t want to go to war.”

“What?” Master Cheney shot back, and cuffed the child with the ladle out of which he had been serving gruel to the youthful and famished populace of his orphanage.

“Please, sir,” the child had the inexplicable temerity to repeat, “I don’t want to go to war.”He looked around at his fellow orphans, who had elected him to speak on their behalf, to assess their continuing support, and turned back to Master Cheney with confirmed confidence. “And especially not to the war in Iraq.”

“But, child,” Cheney reasoned, “why else have we welcomed you into this fine establishment for the improvement of youth and lavished your appetite with gruel, along with the frequent extravagance of a slice of onion and a crust of bread, if not to send you off to war soon as you’re fit and fat?”

“I know, sir, you’ve been good and generous with me, and I’d go to war, but I have a preference for wars that have something to do with an enemy who might attack our country, instead of attacking other people in his own country. I call that a civil war, I do, sir.”

“Ah, ha, you treacherous scamp! Now, after you’ve lived off the unsuspecting generosity of this worthy charitable establishment, you dare to become particular about the kind of war you’ll go off and fight? Bah, humbug!” He turned to the other orphans. “I want you to note what one of your fellow guests in this infinitely caring place of redemption for youthful malefactors has had the gall to voice. He has expressed an opinion about the kind of wars he’s predisposed to fight. Now, what do you think of such behavior? I want you all to take his insolence as an example of behavior you will never in your lives imitate.”

Then, waving his hands toward them, as if he were a conductor asking an orchestra to play a loud passage in unison, he invited them to express their unconditional agreement with his position. “Come on, now, say it, as you’ve been taught since the day you were fortunate enough to be admitted to this remarkable institution. ‘As an American orphan, I was only born to go to war and have no other possible use, and I will go to fight whatever war to which I have the great good fortune to be sent by the estimable Master Cheney and the board of directors of this indulgent institution.’”

Disconcertingly, the host of orphans hesitated.

“Say it, I say!” Cheney demanded, and raised the ladle, “or tomorrow there’ll be no gruel at all, not a morsel for a month!”

The young boys shifted their feet beneath the long dining table, and then they stated, in somewhat random and unenthusiastic unison, the requested lines.

“That’s more like it, lads,” Mr. Cheney commended them, and turned back to his recalcitrant wrongdoer. “Did you hear that, young man?”

“Yes, I did, sir.”

“And what have you learned?”

“That many will say what they don’t believe, but I’m not of that persuasion, sir.”

“Say it, I say," Cheney flared, "or I’ll bring you before the board of the orphanage. They’re meeting tonight, right in the very next room. And you know how unfavorably the chairman of the association, Master Bush, looks on particularly disagreeable children.”

“I don’t care, Master Cheney,” the youth replied. “I will not be persuaded, sir. I have a different idea of the kind of war I’ll fight.”

“Then off you go, young man,” Cheney declared, and grabbed the young malefactor by the ear. He dragged him out of the room and into the great hall, where the board of directors of the splendid institution was meeting.

“What’s this, Cheney?” asked the small and quick-eyed man in the highchair, who was none other than the most revered Chairman Bush.

“A child who, thanks to the generosity of the board and especially to you, sir, your eminence, has been fattened up on a plentitude of gruel, bedded on an actual thin but ample mattress, who will not, despite every indulgence having been lavished on him, go, as previously committed, to Iraq.”

“What? Not go to Iraq?” Chairman Bush exclaimed, and turned a furrowed brow toward the child. “How is such independence of mind possible? Have you not been adequately nourished and pampered? More to the point, do you not know how upset I become when someone disagrees with me?”

“I do, sir.”

“And do you not realize you could be tossed out into the cold and unforgiving streets for such a grave offense?”

“Yes, I do, sir.”

“And yet you will not go off to the war in Iraq?”

“I will not, sir.”

“Well, then, what would you rather do?” He turned to the other members of the board, and reflected with astonishment, “I can’t imagine a better calling for a young lad, particularly an otherwise undistinguished orphan.”

“Why, sir, if given a choice, I’d go looking for Osama Bin Laden.”

“Osama Bin Laden?” the chairman pondered from his highchair and, perplexed, turned to Master Cheney. “Dick, I do believe I’ve heard that name, but I can’t quite place it.”

“Yes, your reverence,” Cheney reluctantly admitted, “I seem to be afflicted with the same forgetfulness.”

“He’s a terrorist, sir,” the young man informed them.

“A terrorist, you say?” asked Chairman Bush.

“Certainly, sir, you remember terrorists. They have an organization named Al-Qaeda?”

“Hmm, Al-Qaeda, did you say?” Bush mused. “Curious name, isn’t it, Master Cheney?”

“Most curious,” he agreed, “and quite disagreeable sounding, if you ask me – especially when it emanates from the lips of a particularly disagreeable youth.”

“Who did you say he is?” the Chairman asked the youth.

“Why, sir, he’s none other than the leader of Al-Qaeda.”

“Of Al-Qaeda, did you say?”

“Now, you’ve got it, sir,” the child replied with only token praise.

“Of course, of course,” Chairman Bush acknowledged, “I had forgotten.” Then he leaned forward. “So you’d go after him, you would?”

“Yes, sir, soon as I’m told,” returned the young man, pumping out his chest with manful pride.

“Yet it might be dangerous,” Bush suggested.

“I know that, sir, but it’s a war I believe in, and so I am prepared.”

“No fear, eh, lad?” Cheney queried, with his lips at a curious angle.

“Oh, a bit, sir, but not enough to deter me. And, I do realize, sir, I have only been fed and fattened to fight.”

“Yes, I’m glad you recognize that,” Bush noted. “But why won’t you go to the war we want you to go to?”

“I will, sir, as soon as I’m sure it’s the right war. If I went off to the wrong one, I might, I’m afraid, be mistaken as un-American.”

“Un-American?” Cheney blathered, and asked the board members in general, “Have you ever seen such an insolent and undisciplined miscreant?”

“There’s no hope for the lad,” a member of the board lamented.

“None at all,” another member nearly wept.

“He’s got a mind of his own, and we can’t have that,” yet one more regretted.

“Aye,” sighed an especially distraught member, “one day he’ll be hung, I swear it.”

“Hung for certain, no doubt about it!” added another.

Chairman Bush leaned toward the lad, and said, “You must fit in, lad, or be farmed out to an uncertain and no doubt unavoidably disappointing destiny.”

“What’ll it be?” Cheney pressed. “Iraq or exile from this very commendable institution for the expedient extermination of youth?”

He reached once more for the child’s still-inflamed ear.

“No need to pull at my ear again,” the young man said, slipping from Cheney’s swift grasp. “But, if I may, sir, I’ll take hold of yours, while you walk me to the door.”

And with the quickness only youth can command, he reached out and gripped Dick Cheney by a lobe. “Come along now, Master Cheney, to the door with me.” And, to heap insolence upon insolence, as he dragged Cheney from the room, he called to the Chairman, “As you can see, sir, I have a willing escort.”

Eyeing Cheney’s pained expression, Chairman Bush couldn’t help but snicker, as he did not quite know how to chuckle. The innocence of the practice evaded him.

Once the lad and the master were beyond the door, a member said, “Well, then, another naysayer luckily weeded out.”

“Yes, and we’ve got to weed them out,” Chairman Bush agreed, “or before you know it we’ll have every child in the orphanage having his own ideas about this war and that. Imagine, the lad wants to go after – what was that fellow’s name again?”

“I believe he said Osama Bin Laden, sir.”

“Yes, yes, that’s what it was,” Bush recalled. “I’m sure of that.”

“Good riddance is what I say,” another member of the board stated.

“Good riddance it is!” Bush confirmed, “to the disagreeable child and anyone else who disagrees with me. As you fine gentleman, who, I’m pleased to recognize, always agree with me, know well, disagreement is the one thing I am unable to tolerate, ever!”

“Never, sir!” the entire board chimed.

“And, if on rare occasion I am afflicted with it, what do I do?” Chairman Bush required of their imaginations. “Why, I plug up my ears!” And with that he poked his fingers into both ears and, smiling, perhaps idiotically, said, “See. Now, I can’t hear a thing, so I know I’m right and always right and never ever wrong. And I’m sure you all agree!”

“And I’m sure we all agree!” they chimed in unison.

And so all was well again in the orphanage and always would be well, because all that could or would be heard was, by the consent of all, complete agreement or nothing at all.

Venezuela Becomes Leading Arms Purchaser; Hugo Chavez Now Looks Like King Crab

by: Tom Attea

Venezuela has recently become the largest arms purchaser in Latin America. Since Hugo Chavez, as the President with dictatorial powers, gets more of the arms shipments than anyone else, he now looks like a king crab.

The crab-like impression is increased by how red-faced he becomes when he talks about America and George W. Bush.

Clawing his way to the podium to make another speech vilifying the United States, he ridiculed President Bush for making a trip to Latin America, assuring his audience that George would be met with a cool reception and return to the land of the gringo with his tail between his legs. No doubt the thought never occurred to Chavez that he might be projecting his own wishes.

He also defended his nation’s right to bear arms and, waving his own ample number of them, said, “We need all the arms we can get to defend ourselves from the United States, which at this very moment is drawing up plans to invade Venezuela.”

While most of the people in the audience remain fiercely loyal to him, there may have been a few devotees who, beholding his new resemblance to a king crab, imagined him being dropped into a steaming pot, which he himself has had the wisdom to overheat.
